Alaska From Folly to Lucky
If you are planning a getaway trip, have you considered Alaska? When we think about Alaska, snow, igloos, and the Klondike might be the first things to pop into our heads. Alaska is indeed one of the coldest places on Earth, but it suspends where you are, and what part of the year it is. In fact, Alaska can provide travelers with a cornucopia of fun-filled activities to enjoy, such as Alaska bear viewing. Before you plan your next summer vacation or last-minute getaway, consider all of the natural wonders that are Alaska.

In 1867, American William Seward negotiated Russia’s selling of Alaska to the United States. Due to the $7,200,000 price tag and Americans’ estimation of the land value, political cartoons referred to the purchase with such names as “Seward’s Folly” and “Icebergia.” But Seward had the last laugh. Within time, gold, oil, and other valuable natural resources were discovered in Alaska, changing Seward’s “folly” into lucky.

In addition to its monetary value, Alaska also provides an array of tourist attractions to its travelers, which are rich in natural wonder. These include:

Alaska Bay Highway
This “highway” is actually a ferry that travels throughout the year from Bellingham, Washington to Skagway, Alaska. Enjoy a breathtaking view of scenery and wildlife including bald eagles, seals, dolphins, and whales.

Denali National Park
With an area of closely 94000 square miles, this is the second largest National Park within the United States. It features river valleys, tundra, and a variety of mountains. One of the most prominent ones is Mount McKinley (20,320 feet), the tallest mountain in the entire U.S.! Mount McKinley includes a North and South peak, as well as five glaciers that flow from it.:

This is located about 60 miles from Juneau, the capital of Alaska. Here, you can enjoy 16 glaciers that extend downward to the sea, and expedition during which you can enjoy whale-watching.

Inside Passage
In addition to a wide variety of wildlife, the Inside Passage also includes outstanding views of the ocean, glaciers, and mountains. Most people visit this area via charter boats, cruise ships, and private yachts.

Seward – Alaska SeaLife Center
Who said you cannot learn something while on vacation? This center’s fortes include research and the rescue and rehabilitation of animals, such as seabirds, harbour seals, and sea lions. Through viewing windows at the center, spot sea live sea stars, Alaskan king crabs, and a Giant Pacific octopus!

Totem Bight State Historic Park
Take advantage of travel deals, to witness what common American expressions about totem poles, are based on. Here in 1938, totem poles were repaired, reconstructed and built from scratch, due to a program of the U.S. Forest Services. You can learn about the characters carved onto the totems, and stay in a replica clan house, which native Alaskans constructed in the early 1800s.

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park
This is Alaska’s bigest and most splendid national park. In fact, it includes nine of the highest 16 peaks in the entire U.S. This region is perfect for hikers, climbers, and fans of water sports. Enjoy the numerous mountain streams, lakes, glaciers, and wildlife species at the national park.
